EARLY SPRING SESSION - March 1 to April 19

For our Early Spring session schedule information, please click here.

LATE SPRING SESSION - April 30 to June 14

Subject: Supple Feet

In this class you will learn how to "cup" and "uncup" the bubbling well areas of your feet as you do the Dragon & Tiger movements and how to "curl" and "uncurl" your toes.

Learning how to move your feet and toes in these ways will help you relax, awaken, stretch, articulate, and energize your feet to make them more supple and alive.

Course Format:

This course has in-person, online, and hybrid sessions. Please look carefully at the class times listed below to identify the format of each section.

Prerequisite:

Completion of twelve to fourteen 7-week sessions of Dragon & Tiger Refinements Series 1 courses, and permission of the instructors. Ideally, you would take each of the 7 courses twice. What we’ve observed is the first time students take the courses, they get a clear idea in their heads of what we’re teaching. It then takes a second time through for students to become able to embody the material, i.e. actually do it.

To join with equivalent experience, you need to have learned from a live instructor and be able to manifest well in your body the movements of Dragon & Tiger in a sophisticated manner. You must know the breathing patterns and be able to trace continuously the energy pathways of the moves and transitions. You also need to be able to feel energy with your hands along those pathways and know how to continuously cup and uncup your palms and curl and uncurl your fingers in sync with the movements.

Embodying Compassion Through Dragon & Tiger Qigong

Our Taoist tradition considers Compassion, Universal Love, and qualities such as Kindness and Caring to be naturally occurring energies found throughout the universe.

Through the practice of Dragon & Tiger we can learn to perceive, generate, give and receive these energies. Eventually we can learn to pull them into and infuse every cell of our bodies, and from our bodies send them out to every corner of the universe.

This course will not be offered this session.

Dragon & Tiger Learning Progression Overview

To learn Dragon & Tiger qigong with us you first take our two seven-week Introduction courses. Then you can join at the beginning of any session one of our Refinements Series 1 courses. You can then take these courses until you are ready to move on to our Refinements Series 2 courses.

One of the beauties of Dragon & Tiger qigong is that you can study and practice at any level and gain benefits. And the more you advance, the more benefits you gain. But there's no hurry to get anywhere; every little bit that you deepen your practice gives you a richer experience.

Introductory Courses

In our Introduction to Dragon & Tiger Qigong courses, Parts 1 and 2, we teach the basic shape of the movements, along with foundational alignment and movement principles.

Refinements Series 1

In these courses you advance your study of both the physical and the energetic components of Dragon & Tiger qigong.

Physically, we focus on relaxing, opening, and balancing your physical body. Physical development is very important because your life energy flows through your physical body like a river flows in its channel. If the river's channel is deep, wide, and stable, then it can swell enormously and still follow its proper course. If not, when the river rises, it quickly overruns its banks and is lost.

Energetically, you learn to better feel energy between your hands and each part of your body that you trace over in the movements. We teach specific methods for learning to feel your chi as it flows in your hands, along your body, and in the field that surrounds you. The better that you can feel your life energy, the easier it is to develop it more fully.

Each session we focus on a different subject, such as: Lively Hands; Agile Feet; Release Your Hips, Lower Back & Legs; Loosen Your Neck & Shoulders; and Breath & Energy.

Refinements Series 2

Our Series 2 courses also are organized so that you can take them in any order that you like.

The major Series 2 themes are to learn how to use the exercises to:

  • gain clear and stable physical balance dynamically in all exercises

  • gain greater continuity and flow, both physically and energetically

  • develop deeper, longer, more relaxed, and continuous breaths

  • circle every joint of your upper body continuously

  • consciously turn and connect all of the muscles of your arms and upper back and chest

  • deeply relax and release all the muscles of your legs, feet, and lower back

  • consciously turn and connect all of the muscles of your legs

  • relax and release your eyes

Your energy development goal at this level is to acquire the ability to maintain continuous awareness of energy on the surface of your skin as you trace the energy pathways in each exercise.

Through supplemental exercises you learn how to push and pull chi with your hands along the energy pathways of key sections of your body.

Refinement Series 3

Our Series 3 course also are organized so that you can take them in any order that you like.

We teach you how you can:

  • balance your chi within all exercises and through the entire set, including transitions

  • consciously turn the muscles of your arms and legs to move all parts of your body as one

  • explore the "gears" of your upper body and how they all work together

  • explore the "body gears" of your lower body and how they affect your upper body gears

  • extend and elongate your breathing and chi flows, and let your breath become softer, more quiet, stable, and circular

  • better and more clearly connect to the energies of earth below you and heaven above you

  • draw in energy from and release energy to the earth below, heavens above, and environment around you

  • use the seven movements to more strongly and fully circulate blood throughout your body

  • bring energy into and release energy from your eyes

  • pull and push energy with your feet to bring them fully alive

  • use your chi to move your physical body

  • pull and push energy along the exercise pathways at the depth of your wei chi, the protective layer of chi just under your skin.

Your energy development goals are to learn to:

  1. push and pull energy with your hands in an unbroken fashion along the wei chi of each of the movements’ pathways.

  2. “push and pull energy in all movements toward and from the “edges” of your chi (or etheric) body - top, bottom, and sides.

  3. push and pull energy in and out of your feet continuously in every movement, toward and from the bottom of your chi body.
